Andrew McKechnie
Andrew McKechnie brings a wealth of public policy and political experience to Peck, Madigan, Jones & Stewart.  During his six years on Capitol Hill, Mr. McKechnie put together a distinguished and well-rounded career in both the Senate and House of Representatives.

During the 111th Congress, Mr. McKechnie served as health policy advisor to Senate Finance Committee Ranking Member Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA).  In this capacity, Mr. McKechnie handled issues related to Medicare Advantage, the Medicare Part D prescription drug benefit and private insurance coverage. Because of his broad portfolio, Mr. McKechnie was a key negotiator in bipartisan efforts to pass health reform.  Once bipartisan efforts broke down, Mr. McKechnie worked extensively with Republican leadership on their continuing strategy and priorities. One of the few staffers who participated in both sides of the debate, Mr. McKechnie has a unique and valuable understanding of the new health reform law.

Prior to his work with Senator Grassley and the Senate Finance Committee, Mr. McKechnie served as Legislative Assistant to former Senator Norm Coleman (R-MN), where he also focused on health care policy. During this time, Mr. McKechnie worked with the White House and congressional staff on complex regulatory issues related to skilled nursing facilities and critical access hospitals.  He also served as lead Republican staffer in the Senate on the Conquer Childhood Cancer Act, which became law in 2008.

Mr. McKechnie began his Capitol Hill career working as a Legislative Assistant to former Rep. Jim Ramstad (R-MN), a senior member of the Ways and Means Committee.  Mr. McKechnie advised Congressman Ramstad on all issues related to health care and education policy.  In this capacity, he served as lead staffer for the bipartisan Medical Technology Caucus and helped shepherd the landmark Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act through Congress.

In addition to his legislative experience on Capitol Hill, Mr. McKechnie has worked on various House and Senate campaigns in Minnesota and Pennsylvania, and was part of the communications team for the 2008 Republican National Convention in St. Paul Minnesota.

Mr. McKechnie holds a bachelors degree in Political Science from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul and a Masters in Health Policy from George Washington University.  He also completed The Fund for American Studies’ (TFAS) School on Business and Government Affairs at Georgetown University.  He volunteers as Patient Care Volunteer at Children’s National Medical Center and is an accomplished triathlete.
